Pyatigorsk UN Model is an exciting role-playing game and a conference, where high school students gather for five days simulating the well-organized work of the UN organs. The participants of Model United Nations include delegates, chairs, observers, and experts. They assume the role of official representatives of the UN members and international organizations, who have gathered at this conference to discuss issues on the agenda of the respective committees.
In 2016 about 130 delegates from 20 regions of Russia, as well as 6 countries of the near and not- so -near abroad gathered in Pyatigorsk, the capital of the North Caucasian Federal district. They sit in the 3 UN Model committees in 2 official languages of the United Nations. Mainly among the participants were students, specializing in international relations. The successful last years’ experience of the UN Model has shown the interest of the participants and the actuality of this event in our region.
In 2017 Pyatigorsk UN Model was held on the basis of the Institute of International Relations in Pyatigorsk State University. The Institute of International Relations is a leading center for international studies in the south of Russia, as well as the basic structure for the training of highly qualified bilingual specialists in various fields of international relations. The sessions of Pyatigorsk MUN 2017 were held in 3 working languages (Russian, English, and French), the proceedings were attended in the 5 committees, the number of delegates was expended to 250.
In 2018 Pyatigorsk UN Model for the third time opened its doors to participants from all over the world. At that time we had more than 300 delegates who worked in 9 committees in 5 official UN working languages – Russian, English, Spanish, French, and Arabic.
In 2020 Pyatigorsk International Model UN became the first Model in the country to switch to an online format, which made it possible to expand the geography of participants and experts.
In 2021 we will have the V Pyatigorsk International Model UN, the anniversary Model will bring together in Pyatigorsk more than 150 delegates who will be able to work at 6 committees in the three official languages of the UN. We are sure that this diversity of committees, agenda, and languages can be interesting not only for the new modelers but also for the experienced ones. And we will try our best to make this Model more interesting and useful!
