What is Pyatigorsk International Model UN?

Pyatigorsk UN Model is an exciting role-play game and a conference, where high school students gather for five days simulating well-organized work of the UN organs. The participants of Model United Nations include delegates, chairs, observers and experts. They assume the role of official representatives of the UN members and international organizations, who have gathered at this conference to discuss issues on the agenda of the respective committees. At MUN delegates prescient from their position and must defend the official position of the country they represent. It takes great analytical effort and the diachronically world context analysis. The final goal of each committee is to adopt a resolution on the agenda.

In 2016 about 130 delegates from 20 regions of Russia, as well as 6 countries of the near and not- so -near abroad gathered in Pyatigorsk, the capital of North Caucasian Federal district. They sit in the 3 UN Model committees in 2 official languages of the United Nations. Mainly among the participants were students, specializing in international relations. The successful experience of the UN Model has shown the interest of the participants and actuality of this event in our region.

UN Model is a powerful platform for developing the scientific capability of students, who are specialized in international relations.

For the adoption of a resolution, which summarizes the work of the committees, requires a strong quality training of the participants; students work thoughtfully with international regulatory instruments, including archive documents to work out the resolution in accordance not only with a current geopolitical situation, but also with historical background of their formation.

In 2017 Pyatigorsk UN Model was held on the basis of the Institute of International Relations in Pyatigorsk State University. The Institute of International Relations is a leadership center for international studies on the south of Russia, as well as the basic structure for training of highly qualified bilingual specialists in various fields of international relations. The sessions of Pyatigorsk MUN 2017 were held in 3 working languages (Russian, English and French), the proceedings were attended in the 5 committees, a number of delegates were expended to 250.

In 2018 Pyatigorsk UN Model in the third time opened it’s doors to participants from all over the world. That time we had for more than 300 delegates who worked in 9 committees in 5 oficial UN working languages – Russian, English, Spanish, French and Arabic. We are sure that the third Model having diversity of commeettees, agenda and languages was intresting not only for the new modellers but also for the experienced ones. And this time we will try our best to make this Model more intresting and useful!
